The Market Place opened its doors in January 1980. It was your classic neighborhood sandwich shop. The kind of place your grandparents would take you after church and the place you’d meet your friends after a soccer game. It was the most special corner of the world to me. My home away from home. My mama worked behind the counter from 1988-2001, until she purchased The Market Place and transformed it into the restaurant it is today. I followed in Mama Black’s footsteps and began working at the Market Place full-time in 2014. I can honestly say, after six years, I learned how to make a chicken salad sandwich as good, if not better, than Mama Black herself. That was the year I decided to make my dreams come true. In January 2020, on the 40th anniversary of my favorite place on Earth, I purchased The Market Place from my mama and made it my own. 

`The Market Place values its people: our workers and our customers. People come first. Secondly, we value a really good sandwich. And I mean REALLY good. Whether you love a Bacon + Brie on a butter croissant or a chicken salad sandwich on wheat, you’re in for a trip. We source the highest quality ingredients, handmade everything fresh, and create recipes that I want to eat every dang day. This is “Not Just a Sandwich.” 

This community is our family. The Market Place gives back to the local Pinehurst and Southern Pines, NC community at every opportunity and is hoping to extend its outreach. We also cater schools, businesses, and events. Contact us to learn more.
