The Market Place Restaurant & Catering | Our Story

Not just a sandwich

Not just a sandwich

The Market Place opened in January 1980 as a neighborhood sandwich shop. I'm Luke Black, and it was my home away from home before it was ever mine.

It started as a classic neighborhood sandwich shop. Your grandparents took you there after church, and you met your friends there after a soccer game.

Mama Black

My mama worked behind the counter from 1988 to 2001. Then she bought The Market Place and turned it into the restaurant it is today, and her herb butter is still on our menu.
Taking it over

Taking it over

I joined full-time in 2014, and after six years I could make a chicken salad sandwich as good as Mama Black's. In January 2020, on our 40th anniversary, I bought The Market Place from her.
People first, then the sandwich

People first, then the sandwich

Our workers and our customers come first. Then comes a really good sandwich, like the Bacon & Brie on a butter croissant, made with the best ingredients we can find and everything handmade fresh.
